Save your left over vegetables and chicken bones and you can make a simple and healthy chicken soup or bone broth. Homemade soups and stews can be made out of most left overs or frozen vegetables, meats and beans. If you are looking to spread the soup or stew out over a number of meals add more liquid of choice. Soups are the way to go if you are searching for frugal meals.
Opting out meat which is a huge price and money consumer is a way to save on meals. Vegetables can be purchased fresh or frozen and can be made into a wide variety of dishes.
Beans & Rice Meals
Beans and rice are the base of frugal meals costing pennies. Beans and rice can both be purchased in the dried variety and stored for an extended time. Search out recipes that suit your interests and utilize what you have on had. You will have a protein and fiber rich meal with beans and rice.
Casseroles are a way to spread out the little meat you have into a larger food portion. With casseroles you will find rice, pasta, vegetables, meat and a form of sauce all working together in one dish. An example would be lasagna.
Breakfast For Dinner
Breakfast is cheap, eggs are generally cheap and opting to serve breakfast for dinner a few nights a week will save you money.
Whole Grain Pasta Meals
Pasta is generally cheap and you can make numerous meals using pasta as a base therefore keeping meal costs low.
Pork Roast Meals
If you can afford a pork roast the meat from that roast will go a long way and can be frozen in portions. You could serve roast dinner, pulled pork sandwiches, put the pork in casseroles and soups.
Ethnic foods usually have a rice, beans or vegetable base therefore being cheaper to prepare. I have also found shopping at a ethnic grocery store to be cheaper than mainstream grocery stores.
Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, ham sandwiches are all inexpensive meals that will fill a hungry tummy.
Slow Cooker Meals
Slow cookers will soften cheaper cuts of meat and vegetables and make delicious low cost meals.
