Welcome to Saving & Simplicity.
Today, I am going to share with you 10 things I rarely talk about. If you are new around here. Welcome! Grab a cup of coffee, sit down and have a few minutes of rest and relaxation .
Here at Saving & simplicity we talk about stressing less, saving money and enjoying life more.
I am a busy mom just like you. I do have a 9-5 job that I am working on phasing out so I can stay at home with my family more and blog full time. Saving & Simplicity started so that our family could be more accountable for our money use. And it is a great way to share frugal living tips with you, the reader.
You see after the oil industry took a nosedive my husband lost his job, employment opportunities and money were tight. And no we weren’t one of those families that had made thousands off working in oil. We actually got into the oil job market right before it turned.
So, I kept my 9-5 to support our family and we incurred a bit of debt. With the debt stress and the less than par employment market I found Dave Ramsey and to be honest I am so glad I did.
We truly took a look at our finances and man were there holes. The first thing we did was cut these 21 things to save money.
We also started meal planning because eating out so much was killing our finances. The road to being debt free is one full of lessons.
I can now say my husband has found a job he truly enjoys and his co-workers are great. We are on the road to being debt free and we have set goals for our future.
So now that you know how and why I blog let’s let you in on a few secrets from my life.
Because numbers, budgets and ways to save can get a bit boring after a while. So let’s spice it up a bit.
10 things I rarely talk about:
1. I live in the middle of farm country but we are not farmers.
We live on the edge of a small city in the farm land area and honestly I love it, minus all the smells. I love the farm to table atmosphere. Knowing where your food is from. I love harvest season.
2. I hate traffic and long car rides, but I love to travel.
My husband is a professional driver so he can get in a car and drive. Me on the other hand I am one of those people who motion and long rides – bad combination.
I also hate traffic which is one of the reasons we live where we live. But I do love to travel so we will do the occasional long drive with lots of stops to visit family.
I also love to see new places, countries and towns. I can’t wait to take my family on a trip overseas.
3. Mom plus dad plus son makes 3.
We are a small family with one child. If miracles are to happen and our family grows, great. If this is how it is meant to be designed that is great to.
4. On top of my 9-5 and blogging, I homeschool our son.
Why? It works for us and our schedule. Our son is ahead in some subjects and needs a bit more help in others and the school in our area is over crowded.
To ensure he gets a great education and the opportunity to study subjects he enjoys we have opted for homeschool.
Are there days that I stress, yes I would be lying if I said no. Mom only has so many hands and can only juggle so much and a load of laundry.
5. We own a pug dog.
What can I say we are a dog family. We have the cutest (and yes I am bias) pug dog. He loves us and everyone he meets. In fact he even loves to travel and go for car rides more than I do.
6. I just started Trim Healthy Mama
So I just started THM and I am still working my groove around the meals, planning and etc. If you are interested in Trim Healthy Mama you can find out more here.
If all goes well you may be seeing some THM inspired meals on the blog.
7. I am crafty, but I am no artist.
I love to do crafts with our son and coloring outside the lines. I am in no way an artist. I have left that up to my cousins and inlaws. I am more book smart and I love being in the kitchen.
8. I am married to a rustic, tall man who loves to camp but…
I am not a camper. Nope, no way. I have camped and it was ok. But I prefer running water and a comfy bed. My husband on the other hand will go hang out in the bush for weeks on end. No thank you.
This year we are thinking about renting an RV and taking it out, so we will see. I do love to hike and do nature walks and hang out, outdoors. Just not a camper.
9. I love creme brule.
It tops up there with chocolate and coffee. I found this great recipe I can make in my Instant Pot. I can enjoy creamy creme brule in less than ten minutes in my Instant Pot.
10. I like blogging and working from home.
Blogging is this great work at home business that you can do in your pajamas while everyone is in bed. You can blog about anything. I blog about saving money and frugal living.
But honestly, to be able to create a career from home that you can help your support your family with is amazing. The people are amazing, the opportunities are great.
