I will do a lot of things to save money.
I will do a lot of things to save money and we can live well on less.
But there are some things I won’t do to save money.
In fact there are 21 things listed below that I won’t do to save money. Now hear me out. These are things I won’t do to save money. You may want to do them, you may even do them. I am not judging and I don’t want you to judge me. Everyone’s circumstances are different and our circumstances depict our choices. There may come a time and a place where I do, do one of these things or I add more to this list.
21 Things I Won’t Do To Save Money:
1. Family paper
I am sorry but I won’t use family paper, skip flushing the toilet or wash disposable napkins. It may be a germ thing or a I just can’t wrap my head around the idea but these I won’t do.
2. Downsize to one vehicle
We are a two vehicle family and it will stay that way for a while. My husband works out of town for periods of a time and as a Mother I am sorry I will not be without a vehicle for two weeks to 30 days at a time. Between classes, groceries, family time and errands I need the transportation and the public transportation in our area is not the greatest and the closest grocery store would be a good 45 minute walk up and down hills.
3. Shop under garments at the thrift store
This is a hygiene thing. Under garments whether it be for me or the rest of the family will not be bought second hand.
I will not steal to save money.
5. Skip car maintenance
I will not skip my oil changes or the tire rotations on my vehicle to save money. My reasoning is if I skip them the repair costs will be greater than the maintenance fees that were skipped.
6. Do my own home repairs
Ok, I am in no way handy. I can paint, but do not ask me to do home repairs. It is much wiser and safer for me to hire a professional or a friend who knows what they are doing in the home repairs category.
7. Skip our Saturday morning family breakfast
As a family we do breakfast at our local coffee shop every Saturday. And I will not skip this unless it is really necessary for a few reasons. It gets us out of the house and sitting down as a family away from our electronics and we enjoy the family time together. If my husband is a way working my son and I still do breakfast on Saturday. Our whole family knows where to find us on Saturday morning. Sometimes you just need a thing you do that is predictable, regular and you enjoy.
8. Make my own laundry soap
Ok, I have tried and failed at this one. I grated the soap, mixed in the ingredients measured and washed and honestly I did not like the results. My husbands work clothes are dirty and I want them clean and homemade laundry soap was not doing the job.
9. Buy everything in bulk
We are not a large family so buying everything in bulk would not save us money. Some items would go to waste, others it would take a long time to use them up. This would not save us money.
10. Skip date night or couple time
I won’t skip couple time. I value our marriage. We spend cheap date nights which save us money but we won’t skip the alone time.
11. Extreme coupon
I won’t extreme coupon simply because I don’t have the time or the resources. Where we live you can’t stack coupons and there is only a few stores to shop in so extreme couponing is not an option. There are other ways to save money at the grocery store.
12. Not turn on the air conditioner
Where we live it gets hot in the summer and I will not skip turning on the air conditioner to stay cool during the hot weather.
13. Not turn on the heat
When it is freezing outside the heat will get turned on in our home. Yes we do opt for a fire in the fireplace first but the heat will get turned on during the cold snowy weather we get in the winter. My family will not freeze to save money.
14. Skip celebrations
I love Christmas and we celebrate birthdays so I will not skip the celebrations. I will skip the wild and crazy over the top costly celebrations to save money though.
15. Shop more than one store per day to save money
We live in a town with a few major stores and a bunch of smaller stores and we are a very busy family. I will not shop multiple stores a day to save money. I simple don’t have the time.
16. Get rid of my dryer
I love my dryer and I won’t get rid of it to save money. Where we live you can’t line dry your clothes all year round or even half a year. A dryer is a must.
17. Get rid of my dishwasher
With hungry boys and a busy Mom I need my dishwasher. This is one thing I will not give up to save money.
18. Be a pet free family
We love our family pet (a pug dog) and he gives us so much love. Did you know that petting a dog or cat is a great form of stress relief.
19. Go vegan or vegetarian
Some people may do this and I do love my vegetables. But we are a meating eating family and even though we have down sized the number of meat meals we eat I don’t think we could go vegan or vegetarian in order to save money.
20. Not pay for insurance
We have insurance on our vehicles, our home, medical insurance and life insurance. Cutting insurance will not save us money. If our rates become too high we can have our broker find us a new plan. The risk is to high if we did not pay for insurance.
21. Won’t cut our landline telephone
I won’t cut our land line telephone. We pay more for our cellphones than we do for our landline and we get free unlimited calling anywhere with our landline. Also for safety I won’t cut our landline telephone. This is one cost I will pay for.
