Ramen

If you are looking for a super delicious easy to make cheap dinner option ramen is the way to go. And I am not talking about instant ramen (more on that later). I am talking about delicious homemade ramen recipes you can make in minutes that embody healthy comfort food your family will love.

How To Make Ramen

Ramen is essentially noodles in broth with vegetables. But it’s more than that. It’s a super delicious easy to make lunch or dinner. You can even have it for breakfast! Friends of ours were touring Asia and had homemade ramen street food for breakfast including an egg. Food love.

Ramen basics involve your broth of choice, boiled noodles, vegetables and protein of choice all put together to create a ramen bowl. Your ramen creation can be spicy, vegetarian, flavourful and unique. Ramen meals are easy to prepare and easy to alter for choice.

Homemade Ramen

Homemade ramen is super easy to make. And I am not talking about instant ramen. You can use the instant ramen noodles but skip the salt processed flavor package it comes with (toss it).

Homemade ramen soup has a broth like chicken broth, bone broth or vegetable broth – you choose. It also has vegetables like green onions, bok choy, bean sprouts, carrots and etc. (you are not limited – add the vegetables you like). You will also find protein in ramen bowls like shredded chicken, sliced beef, shrimp and etc.

Instant Ramen Hacks

Instant ramen is super cheap noodle soup you can buy in a wide range of flavors. But most of the time it is full of salt and simple noodles. Which if your in a pinch and need a meal, fine.

But you can take that cheap ramen and elevate it to a great cheap meal in minutes. By adding chicken broth instead of the flavor package. Toss in a few of your favorite vegetables. Add yesterday’s leftover chicken breast or sliced beef and crack an egg into the soup just before your ready to remove it from cooking so you get a perfectly soft yolk. Add your favorite spices or soy sauce and you are good to go with a great cheap dinner or lunch option.

Ingredients In Ramen Soup

The ingredients in ramen soup are simple:

  • Broth
  • Noodles
  • Vegetables
  • Herbs & Spices
  • Soy Sauce
  • Miso
  • Protein

Notice that protein is last on the ingredient list. In ramen, protein is a garnish and there for flavor plus nutrition. A ramen meal is not based around the protein like it would be in other meals.

Ramen Broth

Traditionally ramen broth is a pork broth base. But you can use chicken broth, beef broth or vegetable broth.

Remember broth is a slow roasted, slow cooked packed with nutrients liquid created from vegetables and bones. You can make your own or purchase an already made broth of choice.

What To Put In Ramen

You can add just about anything you like to ramen. Homemade ramen is a great way to use leftover small pieces of vegetables and protein you have in the fridge. You can add flavored oils like chili oil or fish oil. Adding fresh herbs and spices is a great way to flavor your ramen bowl.

Traditional Ramen

Traditional ramen is a Japanese noodle soup with a pork or fish based broth. Served with soy sauce or miso. And topped with sliced meat, scallions and seaweed.

You will find a wide array of variations to traditional ramen with either wheat noodles or rice noodles being used and various broths or toppings.

Easy Ramen Recipe

An easy make at home ramen recipe involves heating your favorite broth. Adding boiled ramen noodles and topping with green onions, shredded carrot and sliced meat. Ramen is a super easy, cheap meal.
