The wonders of winter break.

The kids are out of school and the excitement may last a week before the “I’m bored” comes creeping in.   Or maybe you have the entire family descending on your house for winter break.

You need a back up plan and one that doesn’t cost you anything because all those presents under the tree, dinner, entertaining and bills have eaten away at your paycheck.

You are not alone!

In an effort to help you stay sane over the holidays and entertain the masses we have put together a great list of 7 fun no spend winter break activities.

Winter break has started, the kids are out of school and you have family coming. Entertain everyone with these 7 fun no spend activities.

7 Fun No Spend Activities For Winter Break:

1. Plan a scavenger hunt

Separate the family into teams and send them out on a scavenger hunt to collect specific items or partake in certain tasks.   You could have your scavenger hunt indoors or venture out into the local area. The winners could receive a small trophy or homemade ribbon.

Make it interesting by throwing in a curve ball or making the contestants collect something silly. If you don’t want them to collect items they could take photos with their smart phones. Scavenger hunts are a great team activity.

2. Bake and decorate gingerbread cookies or houses

Nothing says Christmas and winter break like gingerbread.  And what a great activity for the little ones and the young at heart.  Sitting round the table decorating with icing and candy while sipping cocoa and visiting.

3. Brew some hot chocolate and checkout the local holiday lights

Holiday lights are a big thing in our area.  Some houses go all out, decorating the whole yard, as well as the house. Brew up some hot chocolate, put it in a travel mug and tour your local lights displays.

4. Plan a family game night

Game nights are a great way to get the family together or a group of adults.  Pull out some games, make some simple appetizers and have a great evening.

5. Plan a holiday themed afternoon

This one may take some work but it will be so much fun.   Get your family and friends together and plan a themed potluck with decorations, food and games. In the middle of winter you may be missing the summer warmth so planning a luau maybe a great idea.

6. Camping out in the living room

Who says you can’t camp in the middle of winter!  Grab the sleeping bags, pillows, smores and more and camp out in the living room.

7. Volunteer as a family

You have a few extra hands and some extra time why not pay it forward and volunteer as a group.  This may be collecting blankets and coats for the homeless, or donating food to the food bank or you could volunteer at a soup kitchen or shelter.

Have a great winter break,

Cynthia
