The price of cast iron cookware will vary on where you buy it and the name brand. We have a variety of cast iron skillets, a Dutch oven, a grilling tray, a crepe pan and more and I love them all. Some were purchased in big box stores, others were found in thrift stores and a few were gifts. Pricing of cast iron varies as much as the price of chocolate. You need to shop wisely, know what you want and keep your eyes open for deals.

Are Cast Iron Pans Better Than Non Stick?

Let’s just say everyone is going to have their own opinion. And every chef and home cook has their own favorite pan. Now, that being said non stick pans are full of chemicals that help make them non stick. Yes, they making cooking easy and things don’t stick but those chemicals in the non stick lining leach into your food and aren’t good for you. Cast iron pans once seasoned and oiled cook better than a non stick pan and don’t harm you. Plus they will last a lifetime.

How To Clean A Cast Iron Skillet

Cleaning a cast iron pan is super easy. Let it cool down after cooking. Drain any liquid into a compostable storage container. Wipe it clean. Then wash with warm water and coarse salt. Wipe dry and store. Season if needed.

Can You Use Soap On Cast Iron?

There is going to be a difference of opinion here. Yes, you can. A small amount of soapy water on your cast iron will not damage it. Is using a soap made for cast iron recommended, yes.

How To Season A Cast Iron Pan

Seasoning a cast iron pan is essentially coating it in oil and baking it at a lower temperature for a longer time period. Seasoning helps to create the non-stick feature on a cast iron pan.
