Does your your family hate leftovers?
Do they pass on the lunch the next day repack? Do they wrinkle their nose at the microwave reheat the next night? You are not alone! A friend of ours willing will repack her leftovers and put them in the fridge hoping they get eaten, but knows they won’t.
Don’t throw out the leftovers!
Re-purpose them, tweak them, disguise them and no one will know. First if you have lots of left overs freeze them so the food won’t be wasted. Throwing out food is like opening your wallet into the garbage can and throwing away money.
If you are looking to re-purpose leftovers try reusing the foods as ingredients in different meals. Such as making wraps, stir fry, soup, stew, pizza, loaded nachos or build a bun meals. Leftovers work great as base ingredients for casseroles. If you are low on protein leftovers supplement with beans.
If you have vegetable leftovers freeze them and add them to soups or stocks. Fruit left overs work great in smoothies or baked desserts.
Try a leftover bar!
You can use up your leftover bits bar style. Bake a bunch of potatoes or fix a bunch of pasta. Set up your leftovers from the last few meals bar style and let your family use them as toppings to your bake potato or pasta. Place out a bunch of condiments and have a party.
Pay it forward and give them away.
If you have leftovers that you haven’t touched and you know you can’t re-purpose them think about giving them away. Donate your meals to your local fire department crew or to a homeless camp or woman’s shelter. Pay it forward and give the meals to someone who will appreciate them. I am sure you know a few seniors that would appreciate a good home cooked meal.
Have a great day.
