Can you relate?
Every year there is an overflow of presents. Not only from us as parents, but from everyone.
No matter how many times you tell family no toys, it doesn’t work.
So this year will be different! I am sure of it!
This year will be a four presents for Christmas year.
No this isn’t to punish anyone or decrease the value of Christmas. In fact this is to increase the value of giving and the holiday season.
To encourage value in what we have.
Children have a lot of “stuff” and they get a lot more “stuff” during the holidays.
In an effort to decrease the clutter and stop the “stuff” we are embracing a four presents for Christmas year in our house.
I am so excited…. Will you join us in the four presents idea?
This means:
- four gifts or less per child
- really thinking about what people want and need
- being creative
- communicating
- saving money
- having fun
Four gifts for Christmas.
What to give?
Generally, when you do a four gifts for Christmas the gifts include a toy, a piece of clothing, a book and an activity or something really special.
Children always need clothing. Toys are a great gift, the task is to narrow it down to just one.
Giving the gift of books encourages imagination and a love of literature.
The gift of activity encourages family time, getting out and enjoyment.
Giving something special maybe the gift of a family heirloom or something of true value.
The reason behind a four gift Christmas.
The reasoning is three-fold. To encourage personal value in the gift.
To save money. To encourage less stuff.
Giving four gifts for Christmas:
- a toy
- clothing
- a book
- something special or an activity
No matter how many gifts you buy or don’t buy this Christmas. I hope you have an amazing holiday season full of family time, hope and happiness.
