Is losing weight and looking great on your resolution list?
Or is fitting into your pre-baby jeans and feeling better about yourself sound more like it?
I will let you in on a little secret I put a bunch of yoga items in my stocking this year. I love yoga.
I find it the best way to ground myself, feel better about my body and get in a great workout.
Fitness and feeding your body go hand in hand.
As moms I find we put ourselves on the back burner and put everyone else ahead of ourselves.
Make sure no matter the fitness routine you choose that you are getting great nutrition and drinking enough water.
Drinking enough water will help hydrate your body, flush out the bad stuff and overall make you feel better. Invest in a great travel water bottle.
I love this one and take it with me where ever we go.
Fitness doesn’t have to be expensive and you don’t even need to go to the gym!
Yes, I know some of you are questioning the not going to the gym statement. The gym is perfect for some. What I am saying is you can still get a great workout at home.
You can go for a run, a walk or a jog. I have a friend, a mom, who started walking, then running and worked up to competing in marathons.
She chose running because she could just tune out the world and go. She would run off the stress and she got healthy doing it. I admire her and her journey.
I am sure you have heard of 21 Day Fix and the beachbody routine. 30 minutes a day for 21 days. Great workout, I have seen and read many success stories.
Online there are so many options for at home fitness. You can fit in a routine before the kids get up, during lunch-time or after you have tucked the kids into bed.
New year, new you.
Don’t sweat the small stuff. Most resolutions fall off the wagon before the first week. Make this year’s resolution about being happier and healthier.
Every year I make a resolution to drink more water and to eat better. Then I hit the bakery and the resolution goes out the window. So all in baby steps.
Love your body, love your curves, love the parts that made you a mom. Forget about losing 10, 20 or how many ever pounds. Work on being happy and healthy.
Choose nutrition over counting calories.
First I am going to note I am not a nutritionist and not a fitness coach I am speaking from my own experience.
I have found success in a whole food, ketogenic type diet, low on carbs. In our house this works because we are gluten free.
A friend of ours has lost 50 pounds on a ketogenic diet which is amazing. Dropping sugary foods and processed foods are great choice for your body.
But you have to do what is right for you, find a meal plan that works with your choices.
Some of the great recipe books we use that are gluten free and low carb are:
I have also invested in these great appliances and tools to help me in the kitchen:
Foods we love.
I love zoodles, zucchini noodles which are low carb and great on the pocket book. Quinoa and chia seeds are great to, we can actually buy these at our local dollar store.
I love my morning smoothies to. Our son is very into quinoa muffins and snap peas.
The town we live in has several ethnic grocery stores that sell beans and specialty spices and foods. Have you ever noticed that there a lot of high protein vegetarian meals?
Vegetarian meals are very frugal. I love a good vegetarian curry. If you cooked a vegetarian meal once or twice a week think of the money you would save while still feeding your body great nutrition.
Frugal fitness fixes.
Invest in a fitness program that works for you. You want a program that makes you feel good about yourself. The goal is a happier, healthier you not a tired, stressed out, unhealthy you.
Find a workout program online or take a class at your community center. Or better yet grab some friends and workout together.
Try cooking one or two vegetarian meals a week and incorporate more vegetables into your meals to cut cost. Drink more water.
If you aren’t a big water drinker add some fresh peppermint or lemon to your glass to encourage you to drink.
Invest in a few good cookbooks and appliances that make you want to cook. Home cooking is always a better meal choice.
Focus on being happier and healthier. Stress less and enjoy more.
Have an amazing day,
Saving & Simplicity
