Don’t get me wrong I had my reasons and my son was cool with it!
In an effort to downsize our toy room something had to give and it ended up being some toys. Half the toys in fact. As our son ages we were noticing he wasn’t playing with some of his toys. Thanks to loving family he has lots of toys. But when you get to a certain age weebly wobbly toys, blocks and the one hundredth truck aren’t the center of the toy room any more.
In an effort to save money.
We didn’t throw away the toys the toys found their way to good places. Where we live there is a toy store that takes your used toys and gives you store credit to purchase other toys. We did this with some of our son’s toys and he got the opportunity to “buy” new more age appropriate toys. Toys that focused on his current interests. Doing this meant no money was spent out of my pocket for the new toys. Money saved.
Paying it forward.
Our son choose to donate some of his used toys to charity and to our local thrift store. My son may not be using these toys anymore, but I am sure they are putting smiles on someones face. If you decide to downsize your toys checkout your local children’s charities, daycare or church and see if they are taking toy donations. Make sure the toy is in good working order and there are no pieces missing. If you can’t donate to a local charity pass your toys on to a friend or a family in need.
Toys are important.
Toys at any age are important and help in the mental and physical development of a child. Having age and interest appropriate toys help develop a child’s imagination and motor skills. Toys even help in the developing of vocal skills.
The results were great.
Giving away half our son’s toys wasn’t a bad thing. We saved money, cleaned up some extra “stuff”, payed it forward and donated to charity and put smiles on another child’s face. We were also able to continue to invest in our child’s imagination and learning without breaking the bank. He got a few “new” toys in return. I do have to smile the new toys he chose were science based toys. Learning never stops. Empower your knowledge and imagination.
Have an amazing day everyone.
