Homemade Seasonings

If you are looking to add flavor to any meal seasonings and spice mixes are a must. Discover 21 homemade spice mixes and seasoning blends you can make at home to add more flavor and help save you money.

DIY Spice Mixes

Doing it yourself. Homemade spice blends are super easy to make and cost pennies compared to the store bought flavor mixes. Plus when you make your own you can add more heat, less salt or more flavor depending on your taste.

Spice Blends

Spice blends are used in everything from coffee to dessert, to oatmeal to meat rubs. Some popular examples are pumpkin spice, taco seasoning, BBQ pull pork rubs, apple pie spice and so many more.

Seasoning Mixes

When it comes to seasoning mixes most people think BBQ meat seasonings or dry ranch dressing mixes. These are all great. And you can learn how to make these and similar mixes at home for a fraction of what you pay in the store.

How To Make Your Own Spice Mixes

It’s super simple to make your own spices. You will need a mason jar (or more) or a well sealed food safe container. Spice blends are usually combinations of popular common spices like pepper, cinnamon, clove, coriander combined to make a seasoning blend used in beverages or on food.

Homemade Seasonings Versus Store Bought Spice Mixes

Homemade seasonings are 100 times better that store bought spice mixes because they are homemade. They don’t contain fillers or added salt. And you can refine your mixes to suit your taste. Say you really want a sweet and spicy BBQ rub that has a bit of heat but not too much. You can add chili powder or pepper flakes to create the right blend for you.

Simple Seasonings

When it comes to simple seasonings I think salt and pepper. But you can elevate this by using a pink himalayan salt or a three peppercorn mix in your spice grinder.

Homemade All Purpose Seasoning Recipe

A common very popular all purpose seasoning mix is Ms. Dash. You can use it on anything. Bake At Midnight has a great salt free Ms. Dash copycat recipe you need to try.

We use this all purpose seasoning blend on roasted chicken, in pasta salad, added to burger mixes and so much more. My husband even sprinkles a bit on his Sunday morning pan fried potatoes.

Herb Blend Recipes

Herb blend recipes include blends that use garlic, thyme, marjoram, cilantro, sage and other herbs. Herb blends can also include herb and spice combinations. Tea blends are also herb blends.

Homemade Tea Blends

Herbal teas and green teas are essentially blends of herbs, tea leaves, flowers and spices. We DIY our own mint tea blend with garden fresh peppermint leaves, spearmint leaves and ginger mint. This is all dehydrated raw to create an amazing homemade mint tea blend we use for hot and cold tea. And it costs pennies to make.

Fall Spice Mixes

Fall recipes and spice mixes go hand in hand. The most common being pumpkin spice. Last year we had two popular post full of fall recipes Fall Slow Cooker Meals and Hot Chocolate Bombs. Both use spice and flavor mixes.

Seasoning Mixes For Chicken

What spices go well with chicken? Garlic, rosemary, sage, oregano and thyme. This chicken seasoning blend from Allrecipes is a dry mix of herbs and spices that can be used on chicken, in soups or on other meats.

Seasoning Mixes For Dip

Everything from chips, to fruit, to vegetables is better with dip. Sprinkle Some Fun has an amazing list of seasoning mixes for dip. Plus she suggests putting it in ornaments or containers for gifting which is a great DIY gift idea. She even includes a popular ranch dip recipe.

Seasoning Mixes For Popcorn
