Yes, you can save $1000 by Christmas even if it is only months away.
It just takes a plan and you sticking to that plan. I have chosen $1000 as a generic number to cover the value of gifts, food and some entertainment. You may require less, you may require more.
In our house we don’t go buy $250 gifts for people and we don’t go crazy on stocking stuffers. In our house it is more about the get together and the meal so the funds are allotted accordingly.
So you ask how are you going to save $1000 by Christmas?
First, you need to figure out how many months are between now and Christmas.
Second, you need to figure out how many paychecks you have in that period.
Now divide the $1000 or your selected amount by how many pay checks you have between now and Christmas. This will give you an amount you need to work into your budget to allow yourself to save the money you require for Christmas. By saving this amount in cash you won’t be going into debt for Christmas.
NO DEBT FOR CHRISTMAS! Time to celebrate.
Say there is 5 months till Christmas and you have two pay periods per month and you are looking to save $1000. You will need to budget $100 per paycheck into your Christmas fund.
If there is 2 months till Christmas and you need to save $1000 you will need to save $500 per month. Depending on your budget you may be able to do this or you may need to rework your Christmas expenses.
Saving money at Christmas is possible.
If you aren’t able to save your desired amount by Christmas you do have alternatives. Instead of buying expensive gifts, try making your own DIY Gifts. Host a potluck, bring your own drink Christmas dinner. You can make your own decorations. During the holidays lots of local groups and churches have beautiful seasonal displays and entertainment for free. You can save during the holiday season you just need to assess what is important and what options you have available.
