What one activity could change your grocery bill, save you money and provide for your family?
Gardening!
Starting even the smallest window box of a garden can save you money.
With the current changes in the economy produce has seen a spike in prices and value for dollar is not what it used to be.
Now if you have room to grow a few pots of tomatoes and maybe some herbs or strawberries or lettuce great.
If you have room to grow carrots, broccoli, potatoes, corn and fruit even better.
Start growing your own food.
All you need is potting soil, a few containers and seeds to start. Get your family involved.
If you are going to grow your own go with heirloom seeds which are all natural, non-gmo, non-hybrid seeds.
Heirloom produce are hearty vegetables and fruits that have not been modified and will provide your family with amazing nutritious meals.

How exactly do you harvest and preserve your produce to enjoy all year?
This will all vary on the type of produce you are harvesting. Lots of items can be flash frozen, canned, dehydrated or made into sweets and treats.
You can learn here all the items you can freeze to save money. The options will surprise you.
Canning is also a great way to preserve the season. Jams, jellies, pickles and whole produce.
You can learn about canning, supplies and recipes here.
My favorite way to preserve the season other than freezing all the yummy produce is to dehydrate the items.
We like to make fruit leathers, dried fruits, dried soup mixes and so much more.
You can click here to see all sorts of different varieties of dehydrators. We have the Excalibur brand of dehydrator which is more expensive but well worth it if you are preserving lots.
