Please tell me I am not alone!
As the primary grocery shopper in the house I have a pretty good idea what is in my fridge and how long it should last. Boy was I wrong!
I did my weekly grocery shop and I was sitting pretty good. I had bought a few extra items for a BBQ and thought man I had done good. And all on budget which was great.
Add in some growing boys and a husband that chose to graze and my well stocked fridge was almost empty. Please tell me I am not the only one!
Do I place a lock on the fridge door?
No not really, but with my busy schedule and the cost of groceries I was frustrated. So after reevaluating my meal plans and protein.
I must add more protein to fill them up. I have restocked the fridge and had a conversation with my family.
This is how we have decided to save money and still have full tummies.
- Drink more water not pop or juice
- Eat more protein based snacks not starches or sugars
- Eat more veggies and fruits
- Communicate when we are running low on items
- Add our input to the meal plan
I have also agreed to be more sale oriented and shop wiser. Looking to get more bang for my buck per say. I have also re-enrolled in the Grocery Budget Makeover to see if I can learn a new thing of two on saving money while I shop.
I don’t know about you but grocery shopping can get expensive and stressful. So any way I can add in to help decrease the costs and the stress are a blessing.

Let’s talk meal plans.
I firmly believe that meal planning saves my sanity. With a husband that works crazy shift work and me working a corporate job and blogging knowing what’s for dinner saves my sanity.
I know what to take out the night before. I know what I am cooking even before I get home from work or running errands. The meal plan is listed day by day on our family calendar so everything is all in one place.
I belong to two great meal planning programs. One because the menus are great and keep me on budget. The other because I can fill my freezer in under an hour with amazing meals for busy school nights.

I am not perfect in anyway but I like to keep things on budget and I prefer to keep my fridge full for at least a few days before the boys eat all the food. I also like to save money as I am sure you do too.
