What Is Zero Waste?

Zero waste is a lifestyle choice that is more about what you don’t buy than what you do.  It’s about making smarter choices to use less stuff.  Less plastics, less packaging and less garbage. Learn how zero waste can save you money.

Zero Waste Lifestyle

A person or zero waste family that chooses a zero waste lifestyle chooses to lessen their imprint on the planet and decrease their waste.  They are choosing to reduce their garbage to as minimal as possible.

Zero Waste Family

A zero waste family will opt for more homemade items and frugal items versus main stream big box mass packaging foods and household supplies.

Zero Waste

It is not uncommon to see a zero waste individual bring their own produce bags to the grocery store or shop eco-fill locations with mason jars.   The goal is to send less to the landfill.  In doing so zero waste saves you money.

Zero Waste And Frugal Living

Zero waste living is about using less, making less of an impact on the planet and making smart decisions.   Frugal living is about living below your means and making smart decisions with your money.

Zero Waste Lifestyle Saving Money

Frugal living and zero waste or minimalism go hand in hand.  Living a zero waste lifestyle can help you live more frugally and save money.

Zero Waste Pantry

For example a zero waste person may stock their pantry with mason jars full of beans, applesauce and other pantry staples and homemade treats.  A frugal living homemaker would do the same in order to lower their household expenses.

What Is Frugal Living

Frugal living is the act of living below your means.  Making smart choices with your money in order to pay down debt and save for your future.

Frugal People

A frugal individual will make a budget, shop sales, meal plan and choose thrifty options to save money.

Zero Waste And Saving Money

Zero waste can save you money because you are buying less.   With zero waste you are avoiding items you don’t need or use and opting for homemade or less packaged and processed items.

How Can Zero Waste Living Save You Money

The key to zero waste living is you are investing in items you will use over and over again.  This means you aren’t buying single use items like paper towels or plastic straws.    You are opting for cloth napkins and stainless steel straws.

Zero Waste Living

With zero waste living you are creating a lifestyle to choose better for yourself, your family and your planet.  This means you aren’t shopping just to go shopping.  You are shopping and spending with purpose.

Zero Waste DIY

Zero waste living also means you preserve the bounty of the season by shopping farmers markets and canning or freezing produce. You look for ways to decrease packaging and DIY.

Zero Waste Kitchen

A zero waste family may eat more vegetarian based meals and compost the leftovers to help reduce waste.  It is not uncommon for a zero waste family to have beeswax food wrap, reusable food storage bags or stainless steel tiffins for food storage.

Reduce, Reuse, Zero Waste

Believe it or not the western world is late in the game for zero waste living.  People who live in eastern countries already watch their waste, reuse all that they can and cook most of their meals at home and use reusable items on a regular basis.

Examples Of Zero Waste Living

It would not be uncommon to see a zero waste individual shopping the farmers market or grocery store with cloth produce bags.

Zero Waste Jars

Mason jars are also popular with zero waste families.  You can hold just about anything in a mason jar.  Jars are great for food storage, dry good storage, holding eco-friendly cleaners or for using as a cup or coffee mug.

Going Zero Waste

Going zero waste is real easy.  It’s all about taking the first step to a less wasteful lifestyle.

Zero Waste Tips

This means you may start off by recycling or composting more to reduce your garbage.  You may choose to use cloth bags and bring your coffee from home.

How To Go Zero Waste

Going zero waste doesn’t mean you have to be hard core and cut out all waste.  Zero waste living is a lifestyle and it is your choice to the degree to which you choose. You may want to cut all the plastic out of your life. Or you may want to decrease your food packaging and do more home cooking.

Zero Waste Jars

If you have done any research on zero waste living you have probably read or heard about zero waste individuals who only make a mason jars worth of garbage a year.   Which is crazy because most of us make 4 pounds of garbage a day.

Zero Waste Mason Jar

In a zero waste jar you will find stuff that can’t be recycled, reused, composted or repurposed. Those individuals who only fill a mason jar with garbage are serious about living a zero waste lifestyle.
